Notice – for most of us, our phones are our recording cameras and video cameras. We use our phones to document our lives, and we upgrade the built-in camera with accessories such as Clip-on lenses and selfie sticks. But when it comes to selfie sticks, they simply hold the phone at a static angle and do not contribute to stabilization. For these functions, you will need something like the isteady Mobileplus 3-axis Stabilizer Smartphone. Let’s see.
What is it?
Isteady Mobile plus 3 axis Smartphone Gimbal Stabilizer is a selfie stick on steroids. It keeps your phone in landscape or portrait mode and uses a motor to keep it stabilized while using the handle buttons to start and stop recording and move the phone/camera to the perfect filming angle.

Design and features
The isteady Mobile plus gimbal (I’ll only call it iSteady in the future) is approximately 11.75 inches long and weighs (without your phone) at 1 lb 1 oz. (480g). Although it is portable and compact, it is not an accessory that fits in your pocket.
The iSteady consists of a combination of parts that form the handle and the Gimbal/Phone Holder.
The handle of the iSteady has an On/Off button that also serves as a record and video recording button. There is also a mode button, a zoom slider button and a joystick button that moves the phone holder up, down, left and right. There are also two LEDs on the top of the handle that indicate Bluetooth status and gimbal mode.
There are battery status lights on the side of the handle and a trigger on the back of the handle that centers the phone when pressed.
Speaking of batteries, there is a micro USB port on the side of the handle that is used to charge the iSteady’s internal battery, which has a battery life of 12 hours. There is also a built-in USB-a port that allows you to “borrow” power from the iSteady to power your phone or any other accessory such as a microphone.
The iSteady has 3 standard threaded tripod mounts. One is on the phone holder, the other on the side of the handle and the other on the bottom of the handle.
The phone holder assembly has rubber fed spring jaws that take two hands and a little effort to separate to place the phone between them.
Let’s go to iSteady
To get started with this smartphone accessory, you must first insert your phone into the holder and then balance it with the adjustable holder. In the image above, you can see the adjustable arm that slides in and out to balance the phone, and then the screw button tightens it in place. As mentioned earlier, it takes two hands so that everything is ready. Making the isteady ready for use takes enough time that you probably can’t use it to take instant photos.
To capture smooth videos as you move, walk and run, the iSteady does a great job. I also like that all the controls are at the end of your thumb and that the 12-hour battery life allows you to use this accessory long before it needs to be charged.
The only downside I found is that it is quite heavy once you mount your phone and if you plan to use it for more than a few minutes at a time, you will start to feel the pressure on your wrist. Or maybe I just have cranky wrists!
The top isteady Mobile plus 3-axis Smartphone Gimbal Stabilizer certainly has a lot of good things, including the affordable price, Quiet operation and of course the ability to film smooth videos. Although I find it a little uncomfortable after a few minutes, I still consider this gimbal a worthy addition to your smartphone camera accessory kit.
